Big game behind the scenes

Big game behind the scenes

Matchday organization is a precisely planned operation where every minute and every task counts. As part of the Legia Sport Business Programme, students have the opportunity not only to gain theoretical knowledge but also to actively participate in the work of the operational team on matchdays – from dawn until late at night.

A matchday internship is an intense workday that begins early in the morning and ends long after the final whistle. In exchange for their commitment, participants get a behind-the-scenes look at how one of Poland’s most professional football clubs operates and what lies behind the success of sporting events that regularly attract a full house. A packed stadium is not only a reason for pride – it’s also a huge operational challenge.

And how do participants remember their most recent matchday internship?

Maja Czajka:

We observed the work of various departments, which made us realize what a huge challenge matchday management really is. Preparations started early in the morning, and each person had clearly defined responsibilities. Synchronizing the actions of everyone involved was key – a true art that requires experience and excellent organization.

After the match, we took part in a post-match briefing where the event was summarized and its key aspects were analyzed. The whole day provided us with a huge dose of knowledge, new skills, and invaluable experience. Despite the intensity and fatigue, we finished the internship feeling satisfied and filled with positive energy – it was truly inspiring for all of us.

Kacper Osek:

We also had the opportunity to take part in briefings both before and after the match, where we realized how many processes must be checked and planned to ensure fans can safely enter and exit the stadium.

Another valuable aspect of the matchday internship was meeting Legia’s staff – people who carry out their work with passion every day to ensure the club operates at the highest level, both in Poland and internationally. I believe every LSBP participant should experience such an internship to fully understand how much work is required to allow fans to enjoy the match.

Mateusz Jeliński:

The matchday internship helped me better understand the organization of a matchday, especially in terms of stadium security and hospitality zone preparation. This experience broadened my knowledge of organizing large-scale sports events and made me realize how even the smallest details must be carefully planned and coordinated.
